How do state assessments (benchmark assessments, OAA, OGT) affect my progress monitoring?
What does progress monitoring look like during whole class (High-Quality) instruction?
What does progress monitoring look like during targeted invention?
What does it mean to have a fidelity check for targeted (small group) intervention?
What does progress monitoring look like during intensive intervention?

Why do teachers use progress monitoring data?
Teachers use progress monitoring data to evaluate instructional effectivesness and to be informed of the potential necessity for instruction.

What do you need to monitor?
Teachers need to monitor progress on the indicators they are responsible for teaching (KLTs), schools need to monitor student progress on the indicators related to their school improvement goals.

When should I start creating my progress monitoring graph?
Progress monitoring graphs should be created as soon as the intervention starts and you have collected your first piece of progress monitoring data. This is done to see if your interventions are productive or if a new intervention or an intervention of higher intensity or frequency should occur.

Are interventions the same as progress monitoring?

No! One of the areas of confusion teachers often have is the difference between an "intervention" and "progress monitoring." Interventions are instructional in nature.  They are all about teaching.  Progress monitoring is testing.  It is all about measuring.
Students don't learn from progress monitoring.  They learn from interventions.  To implement RTI, you need BOTH interventions and progress monitoring.

I am monitoring progress two times a week.  Should I use the same assessment every week?

You should not use the same assessment each time, but it must be assessing the same skill and be at the same level.  What is MOST important is that you are measuring the same skill at the same level.

Can I gather my progress monitoring data in a large group setting during class?

Yes! You can gather progress monitoring data during your whole class time, but it is easier to do in certain subjects rather than others.

When should I start creating my progress monitoring graph?

Progress monitoring graphs should be created as soon as the intervention starts and you have collected your first piece of progress monitoring data.  This is done to see if your interventions are productive or if a new intervention or an intervention of higher intensity or frequency should occur.

What is the role of TBT (teacher-based teams) in progress monitoring?

Professionals collaborate to monitor student learning through data and share expertise/resources to solve students' learning problems.  At the secondary level, department members are jointly responsible for engagement and success of students in  department's subject area.

What do you need to monitor?

Teachers need to monitor progress on the indicators they are responsible for teaching (KLTs), schools need to monitor student progress on the indicators related to their school improvement goals.

How do state assessments (benchmark assessments, OAA, OGT) affect my progress monitoring?

Annual data from the state assessments only give schools a snapshot of where students are at a single point in time.  Daily instruction coninues between when the tests are given and when the results are returned to schools.  Teachers must know on a day to day basis where their students are in relation to the content standards to have the necessary information to inform instruction.

What does progress monitoring look like during whole class (High-Quality) instruction?

Monitor progress of certain students, the ones identified from the universal screener) in specific skills (same skill at the same level) over time (graph the data).

What does progress monitoring look like during targeted invention?

Small groups of students (approximately 3-5) that share common differences work with one adult.  The interventions always involve instruction.

What does it mean to have a fidelity check for targeted (small group) intervention?

Another adult would watch the intervention for two things, methodology (is the intervention being done the right way) and dosage (is the student getting enough).

What does progress monitoring look like during intensive intervention?

It looks similar to targeted intervention however it is more intense with a change in intensity, frequency and dosage.
