Brunswick Preschool

PROGRAM OVERVIEW AND PHILOSOPHY

The Brunswick Preschool Program is an early intervention program for children ages 3–5 who are residents of the City of Brunswick. The program serves both children with disabilities and typically developing peers. Children with special needs are identified through a play-based evaluation by our school team, which may include a school psychologist, special education teacher, and therapists. Children in our program may need support in areas like communication, motor skills, vision, thinking skills, self-help skills, or social and emotional development.

Typically developing peers, or “peer models,” are selected through a screening process to ensure they have strong social and communication skills. Our program uses a hands-on approach to help children grow in learning, social skills, communication, behavior, and motor abilities.

We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment that supports the physical, social, emotional, adaptive, intellectual, and language development of every child. Small class sizes and a variety of teaching strategies help students explore, learn, and reach their individual potential as they prepare for kindergarten. Licensed special education teachers differentiate the curriculum to meet the unique needs of all learners, creating an engaging and supportive environment where children of varying abilities can learn, grow, and thrive together.

Our curriculum follows the guidelines of the Ohio Department of Children & Youth and emphasizes a hands-on, interactive approach to learning, communication, behavior, social skills, and motor development.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTON

To support the unique needs of every child, we provide a continuum of services, including moderate/intensive needs classrooms, center-based general education, center-based special education classrooms, and itinerant or community-based services. Class sizes are adjusted based on the needs of the students.

All classroom sessions at Brunswick Preschool are held four days a week, Monday through Thursday, for 2 hours and 45 minutes,  following the Brunswick Preschool Calendar. Depending on age, needs, and availability, children may be placed in a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session. Children who receive speech, occupational, vision, hearing, or physical therapy receive these services either in the classroom or in a designated therapy area within the building. All classrooms follow a play-based, language-rich preschool curriculum that is adapted to meet the individual needs of each child and aligned with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Our curriculum is also aligned with the guidelines of the Ohio Department of Children & Youth, ensuring a high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning experience for all students.
